POWER has been known as a magazine for many years but today it is so much more than that; it’s a trusted brand that includes publications, trade events & conferences, and electronic media. In all its formats, POWER provides the most important business operations and legal and regulatory news, as well as operations and maintenance information, for the power generation industry.

Provide better user experience (i.e. more time spent on the site)—Encourage continued reading of other pertinent content.

Grow user recognition as a source for news and technical information; podcasts, videos, graphics, photos, and slide shows; and power-sector history, more sharing of articles.

My Role

My responsibility are to lead the UX/UI effort to communicate business goals, in a strategy that would work with our users. Working with our Project Manager Julie Samuels, I was part of the initial discovery, and analyzing of all data, users, and interviews to develop a plan to re-invent the site for new users.

Shaping the Journey for our Users

Prepare and Review Team/Brand goals

Gathering Live Data on all products to understand our current users journeys, and touch points.

Ranking all exiting products, and how they align with brand goals, to recognize opportunities to create new user flows, and focus for new, and existing users.

Putting our feet in somebody else’s shoes and creating a meaningful product for the user.

By learning our flaws and strengths, we gain insights into what has to be changed or improved for our users, we gain this knowledge by deploying methods such as observation techniques, task analysis, and other methodologies, which allow us to create personas, and user flows to help us hypothesis how our users will interact with our products.

Rebuilding an experiece for our target audience, while allowing the site to shift and change seamlessly.

By understanding our users first we are able to marry our goals to their behavior. By doing this it has allowed powermag to thrive in memberships, page views, and engagement.

In just 6 months, and thought the pandemic PowerMag has increase their daily active user 158.85% 10,328 vs 3,990, We have also seen an increase across the board such as page views averaging around 25,435+ per article, to User engagement increasing in sessions of 17.86% 1,521,750 vs 1,291,138.

All these efforts have converted to impressions, and memberships which has translated to over two million ad, and membership dollars for powermag.
