The CHALLENGE

For over 30 years, Via Satellite has provided essential news and expert business analysis on the global commercial communications satellite industry, including current and evolving applications, infrastructure issues, technology, and business and regulatory developments around the world.

As the need to deliver news appropriately to its key audience, that is new and engaging. Via satellite needs to deliver the fastest and latest news in global satellite and telecom industries.

The new website needed to provide the latest, and past news in a clear readable, user friendly experience that would engaging the user to interact with the website in any device.

My Role

I was responsible for understanding the users, strategy, design & prototyping the website, I worked along with our project manager Julie to understand the needs, and delivering a product satisfactory to our stakeholders, I also art directed the product while managing our developer Roget, to build the site according to web standards, and expectations.

Our Strategy

Getting to Know Our Targeted Audience

Via Satellite offers in-depth coverage of the global satellite industry . Our goal was to raise brand awareness and expand the brand both locally and globally, so we needed to get to know our current users as well as our targeted ones.

Due to the broad news covered by Via Satellite, we did some data analysis as well as some market research to reveal the target audience, and understand where what kind of experience they are accustom to. Through all data collected we discovered that the targeted users come from the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States.

We combined our user research findings with available analytics of our current users and designed our targeted personas. Those were users that would engage, and influence others to read the proper articles in order to educate themselves and others.

Our Strategy

Brand Identity that Evokes Emotion Across All Channels

With our targeted user in mind, and core brand values, we started to shape the brand identity. Our goal was to create a brand that will evoke emotion across all touchpoints, both online and offline and create a consistent experience for the user.

Highlighting areas of interest, and creating a consistent look, help tie a minimalistic style in all brand materials, and highlighted its core values.

The new brand guidelines helped us define unique standards on how to communicate the brand across different channels.

UX & UI Design

Increasing Engagement by Designing a Better User Experience

As we defined brand identity and the user experience strategy, we used a user-centered approach to bring the brand to its audience in a clean, simple and elegant way. The main focus was to develop a website framework that will inspire customers and keep them engaged with the product.

Through strategic user journeys, storytelling and product presentation, we streamlined the flow from browsing to subscribing. Using smart categories for products, we gave context to each product, enabling users to search faster and engage with the website in an easier manner.

Optimized Experience Across All Screens & Devices

The new Via Satellite website provides users with various paths to discovering products and finding ones that will suit their needs the best. By including a different call to actions on strategic places, we ensured that engagement, and “path to subscribe” is an easy and enjoyable experience.

With 35% of Via Satellite website traffic coming from mobile devices, we used a mobile-first approach and proven mobile patterns to ensure that each action the user wants to fulfill is easy, fast and provides an exceptional experience.
